Kentucky Proud turnips are available from July through October.

Selecting Kentucky Proud turnips.

Choose young small bulbs because they are the most tender.   Overgrown bulbs tend to be very sharp in flavor, and tough in texture.

Storing Kentucky Proud turnips.

You should store turnips in a vegetable crisper where it's cool and moist.  They'll keep for a week or so. 

Preparing Kentucky Proud turnips.

If necessary, cut off tops.  Wash turnips and pare thinly.  Leave whole or cut into cubes.  Turnips are good in soups and stauces.  They are a good side dish to serve with pork, lamb or duck.
