Rock-n-Roll Ice Cream or
Ice Cream in a Can
- 3 pound empty coffee can (can substitute 1 gallon plastic container with screw-on lid)
- 1 pound empty coffee can (if using plastic gallon, use 1 quart plastic container with screw-on lid to fit inside the gallon container)
- 1 pint half and half
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tbls. chocolate syrup
- rock salt
- ice
- Be sure empty containers are clean. In small container, mix half and half with sugar, vanilla, and chocolate syrup. Fruit may also be added. Secure the lid.
- Now place the smaller container in the larger container. Put enough ice around small container to cover it. Sprinkle about 2 tbls. of rock salt with the ice. Be sure to secure the lid of the outside container. If using coffee cans, secure with duct tape.
- Now comes the fun. Place a plastic sheet on the floor. Let the children have a seat on the floor in a circle and let them start rolling the can from one child to another. (If several children are involved, multiple cans are suggested.) This process should take about 10-15 minutes. More time may be necessary if the cans are not rolled vigorously.
- Remove inner can or container and serve!
