Jim Sidebottom, a lifelong dairy producer from Green County, has been elected to lead the interim board for the newly formed Kentucky Dairy Development Council (KDDC).

The Kentucky Dairy Development Council (KDDC) was formed at the beginning of this year to represent and unite all aspects of the dairy industry.  The goal is to present “one voice” for the state’s dairy industry.

The KDDC currently includes Kentucky dairy producers as well as allied industry individuals and groups such as genetics, nutrition, animal health, and others who will have the opportunity to become members.  The group also consists of advisory members from universities and other public agencies.

The by-laws of the KDDC require that the board of directors include a dairy producer from each of 12 representative districts, eight allied members and 12 non-voting advisory members.  The board has established an interim board to conduct the business of the group.

In addition to Sidebottom, Robert Klingenfus of Crestwood was elected vice president of the interim board.  Dr. Gary Lane of Danville was elected secretary-treasurer.

The group has plans to hire an executive director to deal with legislative issues, producer issues, promotion and education, and other responsibilities as needed.
