Improve funding for KDA's consumer protection functions.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is a consumer protection and service agency that touches the life of every Kentuckian every single day. Unfortunately, the KDA budget has been slashed by almost $5 million in the last eight years. We are finding creative ways to make up the difference, like cross-training our inspectors to perform a number of different functions, but our people are stretched to the breaking point. Commissioner Farmer has pledged to do everything he can to persuade the General Assembly to provide more funding for these vital public services.
