Local food advocate coming to Sierra Club conference

Alice Waters, chef and owner of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Calif., will be the keynote speaker at the 2007 Healthy Food, Local Farms Conference Sept. 29 at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

 

Waters is a longtime advocate of buying high-quality, locally grown food and serving it in season. She created the Chez Panisse Foundation in 1996 to help underwrite cultural and educational programs that demonstrate the transformative power of growing, cooking and sharing food. Waters is author and co-author of eight books.

 

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is a co-sponsor of the conference.

 

Registration deadline is Sept. 15. Registration is $35 for those who register by July 13 and $40 for those who register thereafter. Checks must be made payable to Sierra Club.
