Thanks, KGA/KACS, for being a part of Kentucky Proud
Commissioner Richie Farmer
The Kentucky Grocers Association/Kentucky Association of Convenience Stores has been a valuable ally in the expansion of the Kentucky Proud movement. I’m pleased that Kentucky Proud was a partner in the KGA/KACS Annual Meeting and Chairman’s Dinner Nov. 12 in Frankfort.
Many KGA/KACS members have embraced Kentucky Proud. They’ve found that it’s good for business; Save-A-Lot, which joined the Kentucky Proud family in July, expects to ring up some $15 million in sales of Kentucky Proud products this year, and other retailers have experienced similar results. They also have found that their customers like the idea of buying food that’s made by their fellow Kentuckians and keeping their food dollars close to home.
Besides Save-A-Lot, the list of Kentucky Proud retail partners includes bigg's, Doll’s Market, Good Foods Co-op, Kroger, Liquor Barn, Meijer, Paul’s Market, Rainbow Blossom, Remke Markets, Slone’s Signature Markets, ValuMarket, Wal-Mart, Whole Foods and numerous independent grocery stores.
It’s been a big year for Kentucky Proud. The familiar blue, green and red logo has shown up in Disney Properties and in the executive suites of the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners baseball teams. Porchetta Primata, made from crossbred hogs raised in Todd County, harvested in Hopkinsville and processed in Louisville, received national acclaim in The New York Times in August. Kentucky Proud wines have earned gold medals in large international wine competitions.
Kentucky Proud’s success starts with the hard work of Kentucky farmers and food processors who go the extra mile to produce great-tasting, high-quality products that you can serve to your family with confidence. But Kentucky Proud’s success also involves retailers, restaurateurs, farmers’ markets and state parks who believe in it as a way to improve their bottom lines and as an engine for economic development in their communities.
Look for the Kentucky Proud symbol where you shop, dine out or visit a state park. And thank them for being a part of Kentucky Proud.
