FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky farms are serving up family fun and flavorful Kentucky Proud food for this fall festival season. Corn mazes, pumpkin patches, live entertainment, crafts and many other attractions will greet visitors to Kentucky’s fun farms in the weeks to come.
“Many farms are opening their doors to families as a way to make more money on the farm,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “It also gives people a taste of everyday farm life. A family can enjoy a day on one of Kentucky’s fun farms without having to go very far or spend a lot of money.”
“Kentucky travelers have more choices than ever for fun fall outings,” Tourism Commissioner Randy Fiveash said. “With gas prices at record levels, agritourism destinations offer inexpensive, enjoyable and educational activities close to home.”
Governor Ernie Fletcher has declared September Agritourism Month in Kentucky to honor farm-based family destinations in Kentucky. He will issue the proclamation in ceremonies Sept. 8 at Lambert Land Maize near Owensboro.

Chaney’s Dairy Barn in Bowling Green opened its Kentucky Proud corn maze Sept. 1. Chaney’s offers a free scoop of ice cream to folks who complete an answer sheet from questions posted on signs as they wind their way through the three-acre corn maze. The Apple Festival at Evans Orchard and Cider Mill east of Georgetown is Sept. 9-10. Guests can enjoy fresh apple cider, fried apple pies, apple butter, sliced caramel apples and other Kentucky Proud foods.
