FRANKFORT,
Ky. — Grayson dairy producers Tommy
and Linda Marcum won the third annual Producer Dairy
Quality Award during the 100th Anniversary of the Kentucky
State Fair in Louisville, Commissioner Richie Farmer
announced today.
Rodger
Bingham of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture presented
the award to the Marcums on Aug. 20. The family won
the top honor for the second time since the award originated
in 2002.
Dairy
Products of Kentucky, Kentucky Milk Producers Association
and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture sponsored
the award. The family received a farmgate sign and $250.
The
honor is based on industry quality standards and farm
inspections. Jerry Trester, Dairy Farmers of America
field representative, nominated the Marcum family.
Other
finalists for the Dairy Quality Award were the family
of Jerry and Amy Reynolds of Lincoln County and the
family of Travis and Brenda Mullins of Lincoln County.

awards presented at the Dairy Recognition Dinner were:
Dairy Promotion Award: Gary Tilghman, Barren County
Outstanding Kentucky Exhibitor: Trauth Dairy
Outstanding Overall Exhibitor: Purity Dairy
Culinary Sweepstakes Award: Jean Kemp, Shelby County
More
than 160 dairy producers and industry representatives
were on hand to help recognize the individuals and groups
who help to produce and promote high quality dairy products.
