FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky innkeepers and people who are considering opening a bed and breakfast will find something of interest in three events next week in Frankfort hosted by the Bed and Breakfast Association of Kentucky.
The BBAK will hold its annual conference Nov. 12-13 at the Capital Plaza Hotel. “InnSpiration 2006” will offer sessions and workshops on marketing, the Internet, finance, food service, public relations and other subjects. Trade show exhibits will open Sunday, Nov. 12, and a welcome reception is scheduled Sunday night at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The annual awards presentation will be Monday night.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will have Kentucky Proud displays at the conference. KDA marketing specialist Sara Williamson will talk about the Restaurant Rewards program, in which restaurants are reimbursed up to $1,000 per month on purchases of Kentucky Proud farm products for use in marketing and promotion.
Anyone who is thinking about opening a bed and breakfast or a Kentucky Farm Stay is invited to aspiring innkeepers training Nov. 14 at the Capital Plaza Hotel. The all-day session will include a lecture series, reference materials and a trade show.
The workshop will offer information on business planning, health and safety issues, insurance, marketing, financial issues, historic building incentives and other topics. Experienced innkeepers and other guest speakers will make presentations at the workshops. Each attendee will receive a start-up guide, valued at $125, to use as a reference for opening a B&B or Kentucky Farm Stay.
A half-day innsitting training Nov. 14 is for people who would like to take on the responsibility of running a bed and breakfast while the innkeeper is away. The innsitting training also is at the Capital Plaza Hotel.
The 16 Kentucky Farm Stays are bed-and-breakfasts located on Kentucky farms. They give visitors a taste of farm life while providing the owners an opportunity to make money on the farm.
