FRANKFORT, Ky. — Bigger and better dairy shows will greet exhibitors and breeders from throughout the United States and Canada at the 2006 Kentucky National Dairy Shows and Sales and the second annual Kentucky Kow-A-Rama April 6-8 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
The Kentucky Nationals will offer $40,000 in premiums. Competitors in the Kow-A-Rama will vie for another $17,000.
“The Kow-A-Rama has added interest to what already was an excellent event for dairy exhibitors and breeders,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “Two breed shows have been added to the Kow-A-Rama, and the number of exhibits is expected to grow significantly over last year. We expect a strong showing in both events.”
The Kow-A-Rama April 7-8 will add shows in Milking Shorthorn and Red & White to shows in Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Guernsey and Holstein. A junior supreme show and an open supreme show on April 8 will highlight the Kow-A-Rama.
The Kentucky Nationals will include shows in Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Guernsey and Holstein on April 6-7.
The Kentucky Purebred Dairy Cattle Association Judging School will be April 8 at 9 a.m. EDT. The PDCA school helps producers learn how to evaluate the quality of their herds and select animals that will improve the quality of their operations.
Some 300 exhibitors participated in the 2005 Kentucky Nationals. The inaugural Kow-A-Rama attracted 202 participants.
