FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky’s top youth livestock exhibitors were honored for their efforts in the 2006 show season at the Kentucky Proud Points awards luncheon Dec. 2 in Frankfort.
The Kentucky Proud Points Program awards points to exhibitors, animals and breeders for their best performances in livestock shows sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

Overall winners recognized at the luncheon were:
Beef exhibitor – Wes Korthaus, Smithfield
Dairy exhibitor – Ben Sparrow, Owenton
Goat exhibitor – Claudia Meeks, Sadieville
Lamb exhibitor – Amber Combs, Paris
Swine exhibitor – Courtney Tarvin, Mt. Olivet
Top breeders honored were:
Beef – Shannon and Shelley Wade, Cynthiana
Dairy – Paul and Rebecca Oliver, Scottsville
Goat – Charles Allen, Bluegrass Boer Goats, Big Spring
Lamb – Forrest and Scott Dunagan, Monticello
Swine – Nicholas Hardesty, Red Barn Genetics, Guston
Top exhibitors, animals and breeders were recognized in beef cattle (bulls, heifers and steers), sheep (lambs, ewes and market lambs), goats (breeding does, bucks and market kids), dairy cattle (dairy heifers, dairy cows), and swine (commercial gilts and market hogs).
The Kentucky Proud Points Program is sponsored by Purina, the KDA’s Division of Value-Added Animal and Aquaculture Production, and the Division of Show and Fair Promotion.
