FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky farm women can sample delicious Kentucky Proud foods, pick up business and marketing advice, watch an entertaining program for children and much more at the seventh annual Kentucky Women in Agriculture Conference Nov. 2-3 in Louisville.
Two pre-conference workshops will be offered on Nov. 1. An expanded Taste of Kentucky reception is scheduled for Nov. 2.
Donya Lester, an Indiana farm wife and executive secretary of the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association, is the featured speaker. Her address will kick off the conference on Nov. 2.
Nearly 40 Kentucky Proud meats, sauces, salsas, sweets, seafood, cheeses, barbecue and more will be on display at the Taste of Kentucky reception Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. EST at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, the site of the conference. The public is invited. Tickets are $10. A cash bar will be available where Kentucky Proud wines will be sold.
A farm safety and security session will feature a slide presentation by Dale Dobson and Jason Hodge, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s farm and home safety coordinators. Another session will demonstrate how farms can market themselves for school field trips. Jenny Evans of Evans Orchard in Georgetown, Loura Robinson of “R” Farm in Maysville and Jane Corley of Christian Way Farms in Hopkinsville will lead the session.
Participants can choose from among 18 roundtables on Nov. 3. KDA marketing specialists will participate in three of the roundtables. Sara Williamson will lead a discussion on Internet savvy and grapes and wine. Jake Schmitz will talk about organic agriculture. Janet Eaton will lead a session on farmers’ markets.
Lunch on Nov. 2 will feature “Agriculture Adventures: Kentucky,” a traveling program sponsored by the KDA that introduces agriculture to schoolchildren.
Pre-registration is required and is due by Oct. 20. Registration is limited.
The pre-conference workshops on Nov. 1 are Risk-Assessed Business Planning for Small Producers and From Field to Table. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited.
