Gurus lead meditation on garden design

Special to KAN

Two gardening writers head a list of speakers scheduled to lead participants in Garden Gurus IX through a one-day session on landscaping from conception to reality.

The annual gardening celebration is scheduled for Jan. 20 at the Cherry Civic Center in Paducah.

Garden designer Gordon Hayward will present a design lecture based on his award-winning book “Your House, Your Garden.” Hayward, of Putney, Vt., has written six books and more than 50 articles for Horticulture and Fine Gardening magazines on practical gardening and garden design.

Garden consultant Judy Glattstein will talk about foliage as a foundation for garden design. Glattstein, an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden, has written six books and is a regular contributor to Horticulture, The American Gardener, Fine Gardening and Garden Design magazines. She specializes in naturalistic designs using native and exotic plants.

Other speakers include Rick Durham and Win Dunwell of the University of Kentucky and Pat Williams of Murray State University. The event also will offer a silent auction, a live auction, exhibits, and book and tool sales.

Tickets for adults are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets for youth ages 12-18 are $10. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge.
