FRANKFORT,
Ky. — The old-time family picnic by the river will live
again at the first Kingfish Catfish Festival Oct. 9-10
from 4-9 p.m. each day in Louisville.
Visitors
to the festival at the Kingfish Restaurant on the Ohio
River off Zorn Avenue will be treated to music, clowns,
moonwalk bouncers, prizes, face painting and other activities
along with plenty of Kentucky Proud catfish.
"Kentucky
catfish is gaining a reputation throughout Kentucky
and beyond for its great taste," Agriculture Commissioner
Richie Farmer said. "It's also helping Kentucky
farmers make a living on the farm. We are grateful to
Kingfish Restaurant for joining us to put on this great
family event."
Kids
can watch the antics of the Kosair Clowns and have their
faces painted. Adults can enjoy the Vinyl Kings oldies
band on Saturday and the Pawn Shop Guitars classic rock
show on Sunday. Rodger Bingham of CBS-TV's "Survivor,"
the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's deputy director
of marketing, will be on hand Sunday to greet visitors
to the festival.
The
Kingfish Catfish Festival is sponsored by Kingfish Restaurants,
Classic Mortgage and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
About
450 acres of catfish ponds in western Kentucky produce
thousands of pounds of catfish a month that are processed
in the Purchase Area Aquaculture Cooperative's catfish
processing plant in Graves County. Kentucky catfish
is available at retailers and restaurants throughout
Kentucky as well as parts of Illinois, Missouri and
Tennessee, and in Kentucky state parks.
