FRANKFORT, Ky. — Do you get compliments on your display at the local farmers’ market? Have you learned a few tricks of the trade over the years that help you sell your products?
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is co-sponsoring a contest this summer to find effective and creative displays from farmers’ markets all over the state. Participants will compete for a total of $2,100 in prizes, including the $350 top prize for each of three regions. Winners will be featured at the Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association annual meeting in Lexington in January.
Every contestant must be a regular member of a farmers’ market registered with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and a Kentucky resident. To enter, a contestant must submit five color photos of the display and a completed contest application. The Kentucky Proud logo must be prominently displayed at the booth.
Displays will be judged on their effectiveness in showing the product or products at their best for the retail customer in the traditional farmers’ market setting. Displays from July 15 to Sept. 15 are eligible.
Entries must be postmarked no later than Sept. 30. Entries should be mailed to Janet Eaton, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, 100 Fair Oaks Lane, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601.
The contest is sponsored by the Kentucky Farmers’ Market Association in partnership with the KDA, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture cooperative extension service, and the Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development.
