FRANKFORT, Ky. —   The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will play a part in Fayette County's third annual Farm Field Day Aug. 31 at Mahan Farms on Russell Cave Road.

Dale Dobson, with the KDA's Farm and Home Safety Program, will give a farm safety demonstration with a tractor rollover simulator.   The one-of-a-kind rollover simulator shows what can happen if the tractor does not have rollbars in place.

Former Gov. Brereton Jones will give a presentation on the Kentucky Equine Educational Project (KEEP).   Other guests and speakers will give demonstrations and information on the latest improvements for production agriculture and equine.   The event is open to all Fayette County residents.

Information on cattle identification and hay storage will be offered, and demonstrations on tobacco plots, vegetable production and irrigation will be presented.   The equine tour will cover areas such as the upper airway study, a conformation clinic, and demonstration on hay storage and muck recycling.   Both tours will have a pasture renovation and plateau herbicide demonstration.

Farm Bureau, the Fayette County Conservation District office, Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Office are working together on the field day.   Many event sponsors from the Lexington area are helping to make the field day possible.   Dinner will be catered by Darrell Slone, with door prizes given away throughout the event.

Mahan Farms is located at 7271 Russell Cave Road.   The field day begins at 4 p.m.   For more information contact Nick Carter at (859) 257-5582.
