FRANKFORT, Ky. — Area farmers can get pointers on selling farm products to state resorts in a meeting Aug. 3 at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.

Warren Beeler, assistant director of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Division of Value-Added Animal and Aquaculture Production, will talk about the Kentucky Proud marketing program and its partnership with the state Department of Parks to offer locally raised produce and meat in state resorts. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the Greenup Conference Room of the Jesse Stuart Lodge.

The state resorts began buying local produce two years ago and last year bought more than $21,000 worth of fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Last fall the state adopted regulations that allow the Parks Department to buy local meat and dairy products.

The KDA’s Kentucky Proud program helps farmers find new markets for their products and helps connect producers with retailers. The Kentucky Proud logo tells consumers the product was grown, raised or processed in Kentucky. The Kentucky Proud program has more than 675 members.

For more information on the meeting, contact the lodge at 1-800-325-0083 or (606) 473-7324. For more information on Kentucky Proud, contact the KDA’s marketing office at (502) 564-4983 or go to www.kentuckyproud.com.
