LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you’re in the West Hall of the Kentucky Exposition Center during the Kentucky State Fair, you are invited to step right up and spin the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s version of “Wheel of Fortune” – and you don’t have to solve any brain-teasing word puzzles.

All that’s missing from the Kentucky Proud Prize Wheel are “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak and beautiful sidekick Vanna White in her elegant evening gowns.

“They wanted excitement in the West Hall, and by golly, they’ve got it!” said Eunice Schlappi of the KDA. She was busy setting up the Prize Wheel and the department’s various other exhibits for the 102nd State Fair, which starts Thursday, Aug. 17, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 27.

The Kentucky Proud Prize Wheel gives the public a chance to win coupons for sandwiches that the winner can redeem at the Great Kentucky Cookout Tent.

Sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the Great Kentucky Cookout Tent is a showcase of Kentucky Proud fair cuisine. The tent is set up each year in the heart of the Kentucky Exposition Center, near the junction of the fair’s West Wing agricultural headquarters, the Midway, and Broadbent Arena.

Under the Great Kentucky Cookout Tent, statewide commodity groups promote aquaculture, beef, corn, dairy, country ham, pork, poultry and sheep. Fairgoers can choose among ribeye steaks, pork chops, chicken, lamb, trout, catfish or country ham for a quick and hearty sandwich meal. Corn on the cob and ice cream are also served from their associations’ booths.

The Kentucky Proud Prize Wheel also offers contestants the chance to win items bearing the KDA marketing program’s logo –  bandanas, jar grips, key chains and ink pens.

The Kentucky Proud logo tells consumers where to find food products grown or produced in the Bluegrass State. For information on how farmers, producers, retailers, restaurants, and other businesses can join the Kentucky Proud movement and share in its marketing advantages, visit www.kyproud.com or call KDA’s agriculture marketing office at (502) 564-4983.
