FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Proud isn’t just for summer. Fresh, delicious Kentucky Proud foods are available any time of year. That’s the theme of the new, expanded Taste of Kentucky reception at the Kentucky Women in Agriculture Conference in November in Louisville.

The public is invited to attend the reception Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. EST at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center.

“There are a lot of Kentucky products available in November,” said Janet Eaton, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s farmers’ market coordinator, who will participate in the reception. “We want to show people that Kentucky Proud products are available year-round.”

The KDA will bring two chefs – as well as Kentucky-grown lamb, prawns, vegetables and apples – to the reception. The reception will feature a “Seasons of Kentucky” showcase where attendees may sample Kentucky Proud foods that are available throughout the year in addition to a selection of dozens of samples provided by Kentucky Proud food vendors.

Chef Nancy Russman of Louisville will make vegetable soup entirely from Kentucky Proud produce and explain how guests can prepare it in their own kitchens. “Everything down to the garlic in it will be from Kentucky,” Eaton said. Chef Sara Gibbs, formerly of Lynn’s Paradise Café in Louisville, will sell her cookbook, “Southern Thighways,” and discuss cooking with Kentucky produce and meat.

Kentucky producers will have nearly 40 Kentucky Proud meats, sauces, salsas, sweets, seafood, cheeses and more to sample and buy. Miss C’s Kitchen & Pantry in Louisville will offer a gift basket wrapping service for guests to make holiday gift baskets with Kentucky Proud products.

Tickets to the reception are $10 and must be purchased in advance. A cash bar will be available where Kentucky Proud wines will be sold.

The Kentucky Women in Agriculture Conference is Nov. 2-3 at the Clarion. Two pre-conference workshops are scheduled for Nov. 1.

To order tickets to the Taste of Kentucky reception, or for more information on the Kentucky Women in Agriculture Conference, go to the Kentucky Women in Agriculture Web site, www.kywomeninag.com.
