FRANKFORT, Ky. — The first Saturday in May gives Kentuckians the opportunity to show their hospitality to thousands of people from throughout the country and around the world. One of the best places to find that hospitality is the annual Governor’s Derby Breakfast on the Capitol grounds.
Many people come to Frankfort on Derby morning for the traditional Southern breakfast fare. Visitors also can sample or purchase food products from 16 Kentucky companies that will be exhibiting at the Kentucky Proud tents. The selection will include barbecue sauce, candies and other confectioneries, honey, baked goods, pickles and cheese.
“Derby Day and the Derby Breakfast are important traditions for the people of Kentucky,” said Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer. “Thousands of people will have a chance to discover the quality of Kentucky Proud foods.”
The participating companies will represent almost every sector of the state. They are PJ’s Beer Cheese, Paris; Leon’s Bewley Hollow Peanut Brittle, Elizabethtown; Mom Blakeman’s Candy Inc., Lancaster; Weikel Foods, Louisville; Colonel Coleman’s Foods, Lexington; Hillbilly Ranch Honey and Beeswax Products, Eminence; T and A Sauces Inc., Shepherdsville; Aunt Nettie’s Dressings and Marinades, Taylorsville; McDowell Farms Salsa, Germantown; Frankie Blackberry Farm, Versailles; I.B. Back Fudge-Nut Hut, Villa Hills; Anderson’s Natural Honey, Crestwood; Osborne’s of Cabin Hollow Jams and Jellies, Somerset; Browning’s Country Hams, Paris; Lil’ Loafers, Louisville, and Sweet Dillies, Crestwood.
The Derby Breakfast is free and open to the public. Breakfast will be served from 7-11 a.m. EDT.
