FRANKFORT, Ky. — A June 1 celebration of Kentucky’s dairy industry in Lexington will launch a series of events throughout the Commonwealth to commemorate June Dairy Month in Kentucky.
Kentucky Producer and Dairy Night will take place June 1 at Applebee’s Park, home of the Lexington Legends baseball team. Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer will use the occasion to honor Kentucky’s dairy producers and all of Kentucky agriculture.
“The dairy industry has a long and proud tradition in Kentucky,” Commissioner Farmer said. “Our dairy farmers work hard every day to produce fresh, nutritious, high-quality dairy products for consumers to serve to their families. I salute them for their efforts.”
Other dairy-related activities scheduled in June include:June 3 – Great Sundae Build, Somerset June 4 – Chaney’s Dairy Barn Kids Day, Bowling Green June 4 – Dairy Producer BBQ, Monroe County June 10 – Dairy Farmer Picnic, Adair County June 11 – June Dairy Day, Adair County June 17 – Hart County June Dairy Day, MunfordvilleJune 18 – Mercer County Dairy Breakfast, Harrodsburg
June 25 – Barren County June Dairy Day, Glasgow
June 25 – Chaney’s Barnfest 2005, Bowling Green
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will conduct youth district dairy shows June 18 in Shelbyville, June 20 in Stanford, June 21 in Columbia, June 27 in Germantown and June 28 in Bowling Green.
Dairy products accounted for more than $208 million in cash receipts to Kentucky producers in 2003, according to the Kentucky Agricultural Statistics Service.
