"This program recognizes young people who worked hard to be the best."

Commissioner Richie Farmer

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky’s top youth livestock exhibitors, breeders and show animals will be honored at the Kentucky Proud Points Program awards luncheon Nov. 19 at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Days Inn in Bardstown.

The Kentucky Proud Points Program awards points to exhibitors, animals and breeders from their best performances in livestock shows sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

“This program recognizes young people who worked hard to be the best,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “All the participants learn the value of hard work and discipline. I congratulate the winners whom we will honor later this month as well as all exhibitors who did their best.”

Top exhibitors, animals and breeders will be recognized in beef cattle (bull, heifers and steers), sheep (lambs, ewes and market lambs), goats (breeding does, bucks and market kids), dairy cattle (dairy heifers, dairy cows), and swine (commercial gilts and market hogs).

The Kentucky Proud Points Program is an enhanced version of the Kentucky Junior Livestock Points Program, which debuted in 2004. It is sponsored by Purina, the KDA’s Division of Value-Added Animal and Aquaculture Production, and the Division of Show and Fair Promotion.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture sponsors preview shows, district shows and three junior livestock shows. Staff from the KDA’s Division of Show and Fair Promotion also assist with the livestock shows at the Kentucky State Fair.
