LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Miss Kentucky 2005, Kerri Mitchell of Barbourville, is scheduled to appear at the Kentucky State Fair, which begins Aug. 18 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
She will attend the Commodity Breakfast on Aug. 18 at 7 a.m. EDT in the commodity tent next to the West Hall and the opening ceremonies that evening in the South Wing. She will be on hand throughout that day to greet fairgoers. She also is scheduled to attend the Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast on Aug. 25 in the South Wing.
Miss Kentucky represents the Kentucky Department of Agriculture as a spokesperson for the Teen and Tobacco program, "No Ifs, Ands, or Butts – It's the Law." She visits schools throughout the Commonwealth to teach students about the laws and penalties pertaining to tobacco use and possession by minors. This program was enacted in 1996 to prevent the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18.
Mitchell’s platform during the Miss Kentucky Pageant was “Excellence through Education – The New Three R's.” The R’s stand for Relationships, Real-world learning, and Rewards.
The 21-year-old Eastern Kentucky University senior is majoring in English education. She is the daughter of Steve and Doris Mitchell of Barbourville.
