"This is a great tool that can help many people ..."

Commissioner Richie Farmer

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Tobacco Plant Hotline is now open for another growing season.  The hotline has proven to be a valuable service in helping growers buy and sell tobacco plants.

“This is a great tool that can help many people, both buyers and sellers,” said Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer.  “Most people who have bought plants through the hotline have told us that they consider it extremely helpful.  They all expressed interest in using the hotline again in the future.”

The hotline number is 1-888-567-9589. It serves buyers and sellers from several states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana.

More than 3 million plants were sold directly through the hotline between June 5 and July 10, 2004.  Sellers grossed about $100,000 through the Tobacco Plant Hotline last year.

For more information about the Tobacco Plant Hotline, contact Jeff Zinner or Jake Schmitz on the Tobacco Hotline at 1-888-567-9589.
