LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky Proud, Kentucky Joe, Miss Kentucky, a Kentucky racecar driver – it will be an all-Kentucky day at three E.W. James stores in Lexington on Sept. 22 as the regional supermarket chain launches its partnership with the Kentucky Proud farm marketing program.
Special events are scheduled at the Leestown Road store from 10 a.m.-noon, the Broadway store near the University of Kentucky from 1-3 p.m. and the Palomar Center store starting at 4 p.m.
“We welcome E.W. James to the stable of retailers who are selling Kentucky Proud food products,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “Consumers appreciate food that is fresh, that tastes good and that’s made right here at home, so we think this partnership and others like it will be good for the retailers as well as our Kentucky Proud growers.”
The Kentucky Proud products that will be showcased at the Lexington E.W. James stores include Weisenberger Mill baking products, WindStone Farms jams, McDowell Farms salsa, Finchville Farm hams, Screamin’ Mimi’s salsa, Ruth Hunt/Jamieson’s candies, John Conti coffee, Pappy’s XXX Sauce and Sauce for Sissies, Maker’s Mark bourbon barbecue sauces, Applecreek Farms apple butter and preserves, Valentine’s Ice Cream in 12 flavors, and Little Kentucky Smokehouse deli meats and salads. Representatives of Little Kentucky Smokehouse and McDowell Farms will be at the stores to offer tastings of their products.
Former Miss Kentucky Maria Maldonado of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture will appear at each store to promote the proposed Kentucky Proud license plate. The KDA’s Rodger Bingham, perhaps best known as “Kentucky Joe” in the CBS-TV series “Survivor,” will be at the Leestown Road store from 10 a.m.-noon, the Broadway store from 1-2 p.m., and the Palomar Center store from 2-3 p.m.
Racecar driver Chuck Barnes Jr. of Louisville also will be on hand. He is a contestant in the upcoming TV series “Driver X: Race for the Ride,” which premieres Oct. 31 on The Discovery Channel.
“E.W. James got its start in western Kentucky many years ago, so it’s only fitting that it should join forces with the Kentucky Proud producers who make the great foods we all enjoy so much,” Commissioner Farmer said.
