FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Department of Agriculture has been awarded marketing grants totaling $78,870 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has announced.
“I commend our marketing office for obtaining this funding,” Commissioner Farmer said. “These grants will be used for research projects that will help Kentucky’s prawn and goat producers market their products.”
The Department, in cooperation with Kentucky State University, will receive $57,870 to determine and field test technological requirements and develop protocols for shipping high-value live prawn to urban markets in North America. The remaining $21,000 is for assessing the impact of selected goat production methods on marketability and profitability. That study will be conducted in cooperation with KSU, the University of Kentucky and industry partners.
The grants were among $1.3 million awarded to 20 states and Puerto Rico for agricultural marketing and demonstration projects. The grants, provided under the Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program, will be used to explore new and innovative approaches to marketing U.S. food and agricultural products and improve efficiency and performance of the marketing system.
