Guidelines: C.E.M. Testing and Treatment Requirements

1. MAIDEN MARES OVER 731 DAYS OF AGE AT TIME OF IMPORTATION

2. MARES IMPORTED FROM NON CEM AFFECTED COUNTRIES

These mares are not routinely quarantined by The Division of Animal Health; however, they must meet the following testing and treatment requirements prior to entering a Kentucky Breeding Shed. When booking, the imported mare shall be the last mare covered during the current session.

 

  • Obtain two sets of cultures from the clitoral sinuses and clitoral fossa with a minimum of 72 hours between obtaining the two sets of cultures.
  • Obtain a swab from the endometrium. This swab may be included with either of the required sets of swabs, or in the case of a pregnant mare, this swab may be collected after foaling.
  • The imported mare shall be the last mare bred during the current session.
  • The next three mares bred to the same stallion shall have a C.F. test taken 15 to 25 days post breeding.
