Commissioner's Summer Internship Program

Program: 

The Department offers positions to students who have practical knowledge of and training in agriculture. Interns are temporarily employed to assist regular department employees in the functions and responsibilities of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
Program Goals:
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture internship program provides a chance to put years of learning into practice. It is an opportunity to get on-the-job experience. And a chance to see firsthand if public service in agriculture is the career you want to pursue.
Eligibility Requirements:

1)  Good academic standing;
2)  60 college credit hours attained;
3)  one copy of most recent transcript;
4)  three references (one from instructor);
5)  200-word, typewritten essay on career goals;
6)  completed Kentucky state government employment application; and

7)  postmarked on or before March 1.

Selection:
Students will be selected on the basis of written essay, resume screening, and personal interviews with Kentucky Department of Agriculture Personnel Division.
Employment and Training Schedule:
Interns work closely with agriculture education, agriculture communications, information technology, animal health, marketing and agriculture inspection to gain exposure to public service in agriculture, plus having adequate supervision and feedback.
Responsibilities:
Interns will learn key elements of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture through training and hands-on experience and will develop a understanding of public service to agriculture as it relates to divisional responsibility.
