WHAT IS THE KENTUCKY PROUD TAG PROGRAM?
Kentucky is one of the leading states in promoting youth development in the livestock show industry, as well as the livestock industry as a whole. The Kentucky Proud Livestock Tag Program has been established to help promote animals that are raised or bought from Kentucky producers for youth livestock projects. One of the primary goals is to increase sales opportunities for quality Kentucky animals, and to market those animals at a premium price.
HOW DO I Benefit From Kentucky Proud?
Whether you are a livestock producer, exhibitor, or both, the Kentucky Proud Livestock Tag Program can be used to promote and recognize quality animals that are bought, sold, and/or exhibited throughout the Commonwealth. Kentucky Proud animals exhibited through state sponsored livestock shows are also eligible for additional premiums.
Eligibility
Livestock producers that market youth livestock projects (beef, dairy, sheep, goat, swine) will need to enroll in the Kentucky Proud program and purchase tags. These tags are a visual tool that identifies all animals in the Kentucky Proud Program and assists with issuing Kentucky Proud premiums to youth livestock exhibitors. Any animal not identified by a Kentucky Proud tag at a state sponsored youth livestock show will only be eligible for non-Kentucky premiums.
Each tag will display the Kentucky Proud logo and will be unique to that animal. The Kentucky Proud Livestock Tag, which is purchased by the producer, costs $5.00 per tag. The proceeds will cover the cost of the tag, fund additional premiums for future Kentucky Proud Champions, and further market Kentucky Proud Youth Livestock Projects.
To request livestock tags you must have an active Kentucky Proud membership and provide your member number on the Kentucky Proud Livestock Tag Order Form. You can confirm your member number and the status of your membership by logging into your online account and viewing your Kentucky Proud certificate. If your certificate is not available, your membership has likely expired and will need to be updated before you place a livestock tag order. KENTUCKY PROUD ANIMAL CRITERIA
1. Any animal born on Kentucky soil and that has a Kentucky Proud tag in place is eligible for Kentucky Proud Premiums.
2. Market Animals must have Kentucky Proud tag in place at time of validation.
3. Breeding animals must have Kentucky Proud tag permanently in place at time of show.
4. Kentucky Proud Premiums are for preview, district, and expo shows as well.
5. Additional Kentucky Proud Premiums will also be paid at the Kentucky State Fair. Those premiums include 1st & 2nd placings in Class, Division/Breed Champions, and Grand & Reserve Grand Champions for the following species: Beef - Breeding Heifers & Market Animals; Dairy - Heifers & Cows; Goats - Commercial Does & Market Goats; Sheep - Breeding Ewes & Market Lambs; Swine - Breeding Gilts & Market Hogs.
6. Exhibitors may also be the breeder of the animal.
