High Tunnel Tomatoes, Spring and Summer Vegetables

About us

My name is Kim Roberts and my husband/co-owner is Bart Roberts. We have been farming for 12 years mainly corn, wheat and soybeans. We wanted to diversify so we have started by building a high tunnel and planting 290 tomato plants within the high tunnel. Our tomatoes are soil grown, not hydroponic. We have our first fall crop getting ready to ripen. We will be selling these tomatoes locally in late October 2013 until the last tomato is picked which should be sometime in December 2013. We will be raising spring and summer vegetables outside the high tunnel along with another crop of tomatoes in the high tunnel for sale in May 2014. We know people are interested in providing their families with healthier choices of foods. We feel that knowing where your food is coming from is a good start. Our goal is to make it easier to add healthier vegetables to their meals by being able to purchase them from a local farm family.

I have been gardening since I was 4 years old. My grandfather was my mentor. He raised enough fresh fruits and vegetables to feed our family along with countless families within our community. He never charged them a penny! My grandfathers dream was to have a greenhouse and extend his gardening seasons. He never had the opportunity to fulfill that dream. I decided to honor his dream and I am doing just that. Every day I work in my high tunnel I think of how much I learned from him and how happy he would be if he was still here.
