Congleton Freezer Beef began production in 1994 by custom feeding two steers for a company to give its employees as Christmas bonuses. We have evolved into two divisions-custom fed beef for those who want to buy a traditional 'side of beef' for their freezer and those who want to buy individual cuts of beef for use at their leisure. This has been one of our forms of diversification away from raising tobacco.
All of the beef raised and sold under the Congleton Freezer Beef name have never left our family farm. Calves born from our herd are selected for our program based on their ability to become outstanding meat. All of our cattle have access to Bluegrass pasture with all of its well known nutrients. After weaning, our calves are gradually fed a diet of home raised feeds and locally purchased supplements (no animal based feeds are ever fed) while still having access to the bountiful pasture. Spring fed tanks provide nutrient laden water.
Our lean, ASH free (no antibiotics, steroids, or hormones) is processed at Boone's Butcher Shop in Bardstown, KY. This family owned and operated state of the art facility is fully USDA inspected. Boone's is the only stop our cattle make in our direct from the farm beef sales.
