COMMISSIONER FARMER HONORS WINNERS
OF KDA’S POSTER AND ESSAY CONTEST
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky schoolchildren were honored for their artistic and literary expressions of “How the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Works For Me” at the 2008 Kentucky Agriculture Day Luncheon on Tuesday at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort.
Statewide winners in kindergarten through eighth grade were awarded $100 savings bonds from Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer. They wrote essays and created posters describing the many services the Department provides to the citizens of Kentucky.

“These students found many creative ways to show how the Kentucky Department of Agriculture affects the lives of all Kentuckians every day,” Commissioner Farmer said. “I congratulate the winning students for their efforts. I also want to thank their parents and teachers for taking the time to support them and help them succeed.”
The poster winners in each grade, with their teachers’ names in parentheses, were:
Kindergarten – Parker Medley, Utica Elementary (Judy Hayden)
First grade – Devan Hammack, Brandenburg Primary (Joy Adams)
Second grade – William and Sarah Caldbeck (tie), Whitesville Elementary (Leme Dunaway)
Third grade – Rachel Thomas, Utica Elementary (Cinda Cockrum)
Fourth grade – Christopher “Evan” Clark, Deer Park Elementary, Owensboro (Mischelle Falloway)
Fifth grade – Leslie Pike, Seton Home Study School, Hodgenville (Angela Pike)
