Serve the meatballs with your favorite tomato sauce or serve the burgers on your favorite buns with fresh sliced tomatoes. *** Mardi Gras Burgers You'll need: 1/2 pound ground beef 1/2 pound ground pork 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 ripe tomato, sliced 4 thin slices red onion 4 slices green bell pepper 2 cups cooked white rice In a bowl, mix top 8 ingredients, form into 4 patties. Cook burgers on the grill or in a preheated 375 degree oven until cooked through. Place cooked burgers on top of rice and garnish with a slice of tomato, onion and bell pepper. *** Chef Nancy's Pork and Apple Sausage Burgers You'll need: 1 pound ground pork 1/2 onion, minced or grated 1/2 red delicious apple, minced or grated 1 large egg 1/2 cup rye bread crumbs 1/8 teaspoon dill 1/8 teaspoon caraway seed 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together. (Make sure apple and onion are minced very small.) Form into 4 patties. Cook on grill or in a preheated 375 degree oven until cooked through. Serve with German mustard on a rye bun.
