Teacher Training Workshops |
The goal of KAEC teacher workshops is to help teachers incorporate agriculture and the environment as a "theme" for teaching traditional subjects such as math, science, and language arts.
|
- Finds new ways to implement the Kentucky Education Reform Act
- Equips educators with the resources necessary to enhance classroom instruction
- Involves community leaders and support groups in classroom activities
- Facilitates student interaction

| THE FACTS |
| Workshops are coordinated by the KY Dept. of Agriculture's Division of Agriculture Education, Farm Safety & Farmland Preservation. |

| WHAT TO EXPECT |
Attend a resource and material session
- Receive free materials
- Become acquainted with various groups and agencies, their program and materials. Natural Resource Conservation Service, local commodity organizations, county extension services, local farm bureau chapters, many state environmental agencies.

- Meet other teachers from grades K-12
- Become acquainted with agricultural concepts and issues presented by environmental educators
- Attend sessions featuring ideas and units developed by other teachers
- Learn the economics surrounding economics and the environment
|
| AFTER THE WORKSHOP TEACHERS ARE ASKED TO: |
- Develop and use a teaching unit in their classroom or school
- Submit a report detailing the activity and assessing its effectiveness
- Serve as agriculture and environmental resource people in their school/district
|
| *Preliminary reports indicate that for every teacher who attends a workshop, seven additional teachers begin using agriculture and environment in their classrooms. |
