Women's agriculture scholarship available; deadline May 1

Special to KAN

Kentucky Women in Agriculture announce May 1, 2009 as the deadline for its $1,000 scholarship for women studying agriculture.

Kentucky Women In Agriculture

This is the second year for the KWIA Scholarship, which evolved out of the organization’s mission to empower women in agriculture through education, involvement and action. The scholarship will be awarded to a woman seeking a degree in agriculture who is entering her junior or senior year in college or pursuing a graduate degree.

The successful applicant will demonstrate how the degree being sought will benefit agriculture and her interest in agriculture through an essay. She will also possess a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be a Kentucky resident, attending school in Kentucky.

For last year’s recipient, Janet Elaine Meyer, agriculture has always been a part of her life. Janet earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources from Berea College. Currently, Janet is working toward a Master of Science in Crop Science at the University of Kentucky. Janet's long-term goal is to own and live on a working farm that can support her family.
