Kentucky wineries medal in San Francisco competition

Two Kentucky wineries brought some hardware back from the 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in January.
Jean Farris Winery of Lexington earned a gold medal for its 2006 Estate Petite Syrah, a silver medal for its 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, and bronze medals for its Morito and Tempest red blends.
Elk Creek Winery of Owenton came away with a silver medal for its 2007 Riesling and a bronze medal for its 2006 Petite Syrah.
The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is billed as the largest competition of American wines in the world. This year’s competition attracted a record 4,736 wines. The public tasting is scheduled for Feb. 28. For tickets, or for more information, go to www.winejudging.com.
