Pace and Kidd bring their unique expertise - and grass-fed beef - to the table

By WARREN BEELER, Kentucky Agricultural News

Agronomist Stan Pace and cattleman Earnie Kidd have combined their expertise to produce all-natural, grass-fed beef.

Dedicated to the virtues of sustainable agriculture and organic farming, Pace uses his knowledge to figure out how to grow quality grass in significant volume without chemical fertilizers on his Paint Lick farm. He and Kidd raise cattle that are somewhat small-framed, which they believe are genetically capable of flourishing on grass.

Pace utilizes extensive strip grazing to maximize grazing efficiency while improving forage quality and multi-species diversity.  Sometimes referred to as mob grazing, the technique utilizes manure deposits to maintain nutrient content and eliminate over-grazing.  The Pace farm has 70 small pastures or paddocks allowing and limiting access to maximize every inch of forage inventory. Pace uses fish by-products on pastures to increase biological life and enhance biological activity in the soil. The increase in biological activity helps release unavailable calcium and other minerals tied up due to improper nutrient and mineral ratios. He also studies weed emergence on the farm to determine exactly what the soil is lacking and where.

A believer in educating the consumer, Pace gives a copy of the book “Pasture Perfect” to customers or those interested in improving pastures naturally.

Pace’s and Kidd’s product is processed at a USDA-inspected facility and can be purchased from Pace’s Lone Tree Cattle Company by contacting them at (859) 314-3621, (859) 925-4280, or stan@lonetreecattle.com
