USDA offers energy grants

KAN staff report

Businesses and other organizations that offer energy audits and renewable energy development assistance may apply for grants from the Rural Energy for America Program in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Business-Cooperative Service.

State and local governments, institutions of higher education, rural electric cooperatives, and public power companies that offer energy audits and renewable energy development assistance for agricultural producers and rural small businesses are eligible to apply for grants of no more than $100,000. Cost sharing is not required but is encouraged. Projects will be funded for two years.

Applications are to be sent to state USDA Rural Development offices. Copies of applications must be submitted to the State Clearinghouse for review. Application deadline is June 9.
