North American brings the world's top livestock to Louisville
Commissioner Richie Farmer
Some of the world’s finest livestock will be on display at the North American International Livestock Exposition next month at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture will be there, too, to make sure all goes well.
The North American is the largest all-breed, purebred livestock exposition in the world with more than 22,000 entries expected. The purebred beef and sheep events are the largest in the world. In all, 10 different types of livestock will compete for nearly $700,000 in premiums and awards. We expect some 200,000 visitors from 48 states and six continents for the 35th edition of the North American, and they’ll drop an estimated $11.6 million in Kentucky while they’re here.
If you like horses, check out the North American Quarter Horse Show, one of the top five shows in the nation, and the North American Championship Rodeo featuring the invitational finals of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Great Lakes Circuit Rodeo Finals. Visit nearly 150 commercial vendors at the Giant Country Store.
Staff from the state veterinarian’s office will be on the scene to make sure each animal’s veterinary certification is up to date. Division of Show and Fair Promotion staff will help work the livestock shows. The KDA’s marketing office will host an international visitors center where our guests can take a break, grab a bite to eat and network.
Louisville is the center of the livestock universe every November. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is pleased to play a part in the success of the North American.
