BLUEGRASS LAMB & GOAT NOW USDA-INSPECTED

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Bluegrass Lamb & Goat of Paint Lick has been approved as a federally inspected meat processing facility by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The producer-owned Paint Lick business opened last October.

“This will be a big help to Kentucky lamb and goat producers,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “This will enable them to market their products to restaurants and retail outlets. Consumers will have more access to Kentucky Proud meats raised close to home.”

Kentucky is one of the top five states in number of goats with 81,400 as of Jan. 1, according to the Kentucky office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Kentucky’s sheep inventory totaled 37,000. Sales of Kentucky sheep and goats totaled an estimated $20 million in 2007.

Bluegrass Lamb & Goat is located at 3060 Cartersville Road. To make a reservation or for more information, call (859) 925-2000.
