Purple Deadnetttle
(Lamium purpureum)

Purple Deadneetle is often mistakenly identified as Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule), the plants do look similar. Both are members of the mint family & so both have square stems.

In the early spring fields of purple dead nettle flowers can often be seen in Kentucky,
most often in recently cultivated or disturbed fields. (below)
