Currently, the OSV is working diligently with the USDA through cooperative agreements to conduct Avian Influenza surveillance in a variety of testing forms and venues across the state of Kentucky.
State inspectors and program coordinators have been trained in the proper methods for collecting blood, feces and saliva from all species that fall within the jurisdiction of the OSV. Those include exhibition poultry, game birds and waterfowl.
As a means of promoting animal health and securing the poultry economy in Kentucky, the OSV will be conducting avian influenza surveillance in market arenas, flocks close to commercial poultry houses, and major flyways, menageries, upland game birds, as well as both NPIP and Non-NPIP participants.
