KDA’s AgLand exhibit earns top honors at competition for Kentucky State Fair
AgLand features more than an acre of agricultural displays, activities
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2025) – AgLand, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s interactive agricultural exhibit at the Kentucky State Fair, recently earned the Kentucky State Fair a first place award from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) in the agricultural category of Newly Established/Evolving Program.
“Due to lifestyle changes many people don’t have that personal connection to farm life anymore,” Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell said. “Our AgLand exhibit is designed to allow people of all ages to reconnect in a number of small ways. It’s also designed to just be a lot of fun. The team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture worked hard this year to expand AgLand and create lots of interactive activities for kids and adults. It’s always one of our more popular exhibits at the State Fair.”
AgLand, located in the South Wing during the Kentucky State Fair, brings together more than an acre of agriculture exhibits highlighting Kentucky’s farm and field heritage, including the future of farming and agribusiness. This year’s exhibit featured obstacle courses, coloring walls, learning centers, and, of course, popcorn.
In addition to the AgLand award, the Largest Pumpkin and Watermelon Contest also won a third-place award in the Agricultural Exhibitor Events and Incentives category.
The Kentucky State Fair celebrated its 120th year in 2024. In this year’s IAFE competition, which pit the Fair against other top-tier fairs drawing an average attendance of 500,000 to 1 million visitors, the Fair won a record number of honors.
